The Creation of Woody Buchman

Many ask me how I came up with the character Woody Buchman. Simple, the character is based on an actual person. I came up with it 37 years ago. My nickname is Woody, and back then, one of my drinking buddy friends had a similar name. He was one of the coolest guys I had ever hung with. The name popped into my head.

I’m a hardcore addict and alcoholic and, over the years, have done some wild, bizarre stuff. My only pride is I never let my addiction interfere drastically in my life. That’s not to say it didn’t—I'm sure it did, but I never lost jobs because of it. I digress.

People would say, “Oh man, you should write a book.” After hearing some of the stunts I pulled. Originally, I came up with “The Adventures of Woody Buchman.” Simply a log detailing my bizarre life of degradation. Thirty-one years later, my late brother and I started to write it. It’s out this fall.

I have blacked out for periods of weeks at a time, been homeless on the streets of Glasgow, survived, and then built the largest discount coffee company in the UK. I’ve done enough coke to supply Miami, my character Woody Buchman committed enough white collar crimes totaling 1.5 million British Pounds, laundered money for a notorious East End Glasgow crew and spent thousands upon thousands, if not a couple or a few hundred thousand of dollars on his addiction. Writing Woody Buchman came easy. You write what you know.

I’m now writing the Woody Buchman Diaries. Stuff that’s not in the book. Join the elite club of Woody Buchman and subscribe to my site.

Though Woody Buchanan is based on true events it is a work of fiction. The author bears no responsibility to claims made.
